While offering a full range of local Fresh Produce items, FDP specializes in exciting and exotic products with a special focus on customer education. FDP has grown, in just 9 years, to over 100 employees and two locations (Vancouver HO and Calgary). Fresh Direct is also a recipient of the 2012 "Canada's 50 Best Managed" award.In my role at FDP, I was responsible for developing and enhancing the internal Quality Assurance and Food Safety systems, ensuring regulatory compliance and that the programs in place are and remain compliant with industry and government standards. I also served as a subject matter expert on many food safety related issues with an emphasis on interpreting the regulations and liaising with government (CFIA, USDA, CBSA, CBP) to ensure proper implementation of changes within our industry.With a special focus on risk management and loss prevention, I worked with all departments to help find find new, out of the box solutions for the growing and expanding business. Regularly reviewing our current methods to see if there is a way we can be better to reviewing our service commitments and making sure we are hitting our targets.I also worked to coordinate in Canada logistics for both inbound and outbound products. With a special focus on carrier performance and relationship development. From sourcing new providers to ensuring existing ones are meeting the service standards. Cancon Logistics was a 168K sq ft 3PL Warehouse facility, located in Delta BC, that serviced general warehouse customers but also had a special focus on the alcohol distribution sector. The facility offered dry warehousing services for a variety of different customers, from food service to furniture, but also offered a bonded refrigerated facility to the alcohol distributors.Offering the flexibility of a smaller operation allowed clients of Cancon to enjoy a more hands on approach to their warehousing requirements. In my role with Cancon, I was responsible for the day to day management of the warehouse operations, with a team of 18 in the warehouse and a team of 6 in customer service. We operated a retail accounting centre for the Liquor Distribution Branch in BC, which allowed us to accept and process orders for bars, restaurants and liquor stores through the greater Vancouver area.We developed a direct-store-delivery model for the customers that was able to provide fast and flexible next day delivery for their orders. We also worked with the different clients to help them in sale promotions and other activities that would further their growth.During my time with Cancon, I designed and built a 8000 sq ft cooler as well as was responsible for the acquisitions of new power equipment (reach trucks, forklifts etc.) for the operations. In managing scheduling and the reporting of payroll to the head office, we implemented an automated time collection system to speed the processing and accuracy of the reporting. I was also responsible for developing a 4PL relationship for one of our customers, offering them access to foreign warehousing but with local management.The company closed operations in BC in December 2010. Its early roots in dry storage, to the full service company that it is today, CDS has great skill at meeting the ever changing demands of their clients; CDS stepped up to help and responded with the addition of a full service freight & distribution division. Later adding an in-house customs broker. During my time with CDS, I helped to add another division of the company, CDS Transload, that aided the overseas export market in preparing the outbound containers for shipment. I was responsible for helping in business development and sales by looking after the needs of existing accounts while helping to develop new opportunities and clients including Unilever, Red Bull, Pepsi and Parmalat. I also helped to establish the early version of the Wal-Mart DC at the facility. I was also responsible for meeting the public demands of the company and was a member of the Vancouver Board of Trade and was a panelist speaker at a NASCO conference in Mexico. My role with CDS required that I learn from the ground up and be flexable to fill the gap in a growing company as required. I worked with our WMS provider to implement a full RF system throughout the facility and to make improvements to the overall operation of the WMS system. This included the roll-out of an online system for clients to access their products. I was responsible for the development of the policies and procedures that would help to take the company to the next level including the development of the OHS plan, automated payroll systems, food safety program (full HACCP plan) which culminated in successful completion of the program requirements of the CFIA to become a registered establishment, FSEP-Site S124. I encouraged cost savings initiatives including the shift to JIT arrivals of ingredients and inventory, outsourced 3PL warehousing & logistics solutions and to find efficiencies in production.
