I had the privilege of spending 1.5 years on the University of Utah football team. Initially, I played linebacker, but after adding 30 pounds to my frame, I transitioned to the defensive end position.During my time with the team, I had some unforgettable moments, including sacking future NFL quarterback Alex Smith—a play that landed me on the front page of three local newspapers. It was a fleeting but memorable "weekend of fame."Ultimately, I made the difficult decision to leave the team to focus on pursuing a degree in art and design. Unlike many other fields of study, my degree required a demanding schedule that didn’t align well with the commitments of being a student-athlete.I’ll never forget Coach Urban Meyer’s encouragement to stay, telling me I was guaranteed playing time the following season and warning that I might regret my decision to step away.He was wrong. I’ve found a fulfilling career that aligns with my passions and wouldn’t trade it for anything. My time with the team taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of pursuing what truly matters in life.
