In addition to the consumer facing website for ordering, it was also responsible for delivery logistics (scheduling, navigation), plus back of house systems (inventory management, food prep, staff scheduling, and staff bonus programs).External integrations included 2-way SMS and voice communication with customers (Twilio), marketing e-mail integration (SendGrid), and payment integrations (Stripe).Development included a robust set of automated tests, continuous integration, and releases at least twice a week.Plus lots of boba.

Building out a team to support the core of OpenTable's amazing Restaurant network. A heterogeneous array of technologies that serve as the daily lifeblood of the top restaurants in the world. From the Electronic Reservation Book (ERB) to Restaurant Center and many points in-between, our team maintains and secures the foundation of the technologies most used by OpenTable's restaurants and develops the tools to transform them into the next generation.

Joined a 4 person engineering team to rebuild our restaurant products, succeeded in building a highly available, self-maintaining, performant system. Evolved our network from 2000 restaurants in the U.S.A. to over 16,000 around the world.Accomplishments of note:• Managed a software team of 12 developers and QA who were responsible for OpenTable’s restaurant software, a highly available distributed network of 16,000+ restaurant machines through multiple major releases and patches. • Doubled the size of the restaurant engineering team from 6 to 12 in the course of a year. • Oversaw an aggressive expansion of our technology infrastructure ranging from automated testing, centralized data warehousing and reporting, to automated failure detection and recovery. • Led internationalization of OpenTable’s restaurant product and eventual localization into French, Spanish, German and Japanese. This included development of company standards on how to store and distribute dates, addresses, and phone numbers in a fully international format. • Developed an automated remote upgrade management system that allowed for centralized scheduling and upgrading of thousands of restaurant systems, which previous required assistance from call center support staff.• Led offshore team in India through major database schema changes that led to a 25% decrease in database size and effectively cut our daily data center bandwidth usage by twice that amount.
