Supporting energy technology research & development at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL)
Washington D.C. Metro Area
Bringing experience in energy technology research, development, analysis, process modeling and simulation, project and program management, systems engineering, and nuclear fuel and hazardous waste management to bear in industrial and process control systems security.
Washington D.C. Metro Area/Pittsburgh
Program management, engineering, and technology analysis in support of research & development projects in natural gas, coal, and renewable fuel power cycles and alternative fuels development, under ongoing contracts and working relationships with the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL), the U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters in Washington DC and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Pittsburgh, PA. Some highlights of accomplishments include the following:• Modeling of natural-gas fired turbines and power cycles, and large-scale, detailed power cycle and plant simulations using state-of-the-art process simulators including PRO-II and Aspen Plus.• Development of tools and models for distributed power generation applications including fluidized bed combustion using waste and indigenous fossil fuel & renewable resource utilization. A notable example was a power systems model developed to support CERL’s Silent Camp concept.• Analyses assessing the impacts of power plant retirements from incipient environmental legislation, changes in prices of fuels for power generation (natural gas vs. coal, etc.) and other factors on electricity generation market, power supply reliability, need for infrastructure for transportation of fuels, and other issues concerning energy security in the United States.• Analyses of advanced natural gas, and coal/biomass gasification technology for production of power, liquid fuels, and chemicals.• Technology analysis to support a recent joint Department of Defense-Department of Energy initiative for new R&D in alternatives to conventional petroleum-derived jet fuel production.
Washington D.C. Metro Area
Contractor for U.S. Department of Energy Headquarters in Washington DC and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) in Pittsburgh, PA, providing engineering analysis for development of advanced low-emissions electricity generation technology and concepts such as Vision 21 and FutureGen, thermoelectric power generation, and advanced combustion turbines.
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Performed technical requirements definition and management for the production plant design of the AVLIS (Atomic Vapor Laser Isotope Separation) Project at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, CA. The AVLIS Project objective was to design a production plant using laser photoionization for uranium enrichment, to replace conventional gaseous diffusion for nuclear fuel production. Worked closely with design engineers for AVLIS plant systems to define and document system and equipment component functions, performance requirements, and interfaces, in an effort to improve integration of the plant design and ensure compliance of the design with all identifiable requirements and constraints (safety, regulatory, code-related, etc.) Acquired DOE L Clearance (equivalent to Secret) for this position.
Richland/Kennewick/Pasco, Washington Area
