  • Ge Vernova
    Lead Test Engineer
    Ge Vernova 2015 - 2024
I managed fleet validation testing for GE, Siemens, Alstom, and Mitsubishi gas turbines across simple and combined cycle power plants, as well as advanced prototype projects. My responsibilities included project quoting, sourcing, and purchasing materials, labor, component manufacturing, and modifications. I closely tracked the test program's budget, covering employee time, materials, vendor services, contractor time, shipping, and travel. I led projects ranging from $50K to $4.5M, guiding the test engineering team through conceptualization, mobilization, deployment, execution, and closure. For component validation testing, I have lead/assisted over 70 projects globally, including spin rig blades, prototype turbine nozzles, and new instrumentation. I managed instrumentation installation, equipment calibration, data acquisition setup, and analysis. I ensured ISO compliance, monitored equipment tolerances, and served as the key communication point to meet testing parameters. I also wrote test procedures, training manuals, operating instructions, and final reports. In engineering, design, and manufacturing, I designed and built hardware and instrumentation for testing, focusing on thermocouples, laser probes, capacitance probes, pressure probes, RTDs, flow meters, pitot tubes, accelerometers, and strain gauges. I developed software with NI LabVIEW to enhance testing capabilities and achieved significant cost savings compared to commercial hardware.
  • Ge Vernova
    Test Engineer
    Ge Vernova 2015 - 2024
    United States
My testing expertise encompasses a wide range of advanced measurement technologies vital for turbine system analysis. I specialized in laser-based fiber optic tip timing, using custom-designed sensors I helped create and advanced software from GE’s NCD, Agilis’s 360, and PrimePhotonics FOCUS to achieve precise measurements of turbine blade tip movements. Additionally, I employed laser-based fiber optic clearance measurement to accurately gauge distances between turbine blades and adjacent components, ensuring clearances remained within precise tolerances. My proficiency with capacitance-based sensors allowed for real-time monitoring of blade proximity to stationary parts, in collaboration with GADCAP’s Capacisense, to prevent mechanical contact and optimize performance.I utilized thermocouples and RTDs for accurate temperature readings, essential for operational safety and efficiency, and worked with various pressure sensors to monitor and analyze pressure levels, ensuring components operated optimally. My skills extended to using flow sensors to measure fluid flow rates, maintaining system efficiency, and applying thermal paints to visually assess temperature distributions on turbine components, identifying thermal stress points. In collaboration with LG Tech Link, I employed uniform crystal temperature sensors for precise temperature measurements across varied conditions, ensuring components operated within their thermal limits. I used proximity probes and lasers for accurate distance measurements and alignment, contributing to turbine system safety and efficiency. My experience also includes strain gauges for deformation measurement, PCB sensors from PCB Piezotronics for high-precision data acquisition, and sound pressure sensors for noise analysis. These diverse specialties enabled me to conduct thorough testing, ensuring turbine system reliability, safety, and efficiency through advanced measurement and monitoring techniques.
