Also developed tools for the genetic manipulation of Rhodocococcus sp. with a view to exploiting inherent biodiversity in this group, which led to the discovery and patenting of a new species (see world patents derived from EP0917563.) Also developed new technology to separate oil from solid wastes, including drill-mud cuttings. Also developed new technology based on chelating agents to extract gypsum (calcium sulphate) from demolition waste materials such as scrap plasterboard.
