Professor Passaglia is an expert in ocular neuroscience and neuroengineering. He has a record of scientific accomplishment that has garnered national awards at each stage of his scientific career, including Donald B. Lindsley Prize (Society of Neuroscience), NIH NRSA postdoctoral fellowship, NSF CAREER Award, and Thomas R. Lee Award (BrightFocus Foundation). He has 20+ years of experience studying the visual system of various animals using behavioral, computational, instrumentational, and electrophysiological (electroretinograms, visual evoked potentials, optic nerve recordings, patch clamp recordings) methods. His work has advanced understanding of the neural basis of vision and pathophysiology of visual diseases through the development of one-of-a-kind devices for eye pressure measurement and control, discovery and characterization of information processing mechanisms of the visual system, and training students of all levels and backgrounds who have gone on to forge careers of their own in academia or biomedical industry.
