As the sole developer at the NPA I play a key role with in the IT department. I have been responsible for the full lifecycle of a number of software projects in a range of sizes. These have ranged from REST API access to our data for external vendors through to full greenfield projects using C# .NET, ASP MVC and SQL Server to replace legacy systems.During my time at the NPA I have introduced proper software engineering practices to the company. This has involved teaching both the IT department and other departments how to plan and produce a quality product. From an initial idea through design and development I have been able to introduce concepts like Agile as well as UAT.As well as developer, I have also had to help manage projects alongside the IT manager. I have taken part in scoping the problem and also requirements gathering prior to beginning development. As projects have then continued, I have taken part in customer demos to show progress and gather feedback for further refinement of the product.

Within Just Retirement I have worked in a number of teams. These have covered maintenance of existing legacy product using VB.NET as well as development of new greenfield projects in C#. I have also been a member of the continuous improvement team tasked with leading the improvement delivery within the company using TFS and Visual Studio Release Management.Working in a Scrum agile method I have gained experience in estimating required effort for both development and testing of a story and then in developing this through to completion on time. This requires having a good understanding of all areas of the work from the business through development and testing.

As a developer at Safetykleen I was responsible for the development, support and maintenance of the internal service management and accounting system. I was involved in many major initiatives both implementing new features within the software suite, and also in driving to upgrade the development environment to use more modern technologies.My role comprised of both feature development and support roles. As part of feature development, I was involved in initial specification and problem solving through development and testing before final deployment into the live environment. My time working on support further enhanced my experience working with clients and improved my communication skills.

Within DHC I worked as part of the development team creating and maintaining modifications to a popular SMB accounting package. By creating software wrappers using VB.NET I was able to layer on additional functionality and/or replace the existing system. Using a combination of VB.NET and SQL I produced reliable and robust applications as expected by the accounting industry.Having been involved in the full life cycle means I am experienced in everything from initial requirements capture through to final testing and deployment. This wealth of experience means that I am able to produce a high-quality end product, thus reducing additional work at all stages of the project and also after completion.I have been involved with a large number of projects, for many different project managers. This variety has enabled me to gain experience in my technical communication skills and has also improved my requirements capture skills.

At Cisco I was part of the development testing team IP Tunnels. Testing was performed by running automated TCL scripts which I was responsible for creating and maintaining. Our team was also the first port of call for support for suspected bugs in IP Tunnels, where we would triage the problem and take appropriate action.I was also instrumental in the development of a patch to the internal Unix based router OS simulator. This added a spurious access handler which enabled the simulator to behave in the same manner as the OS on Cisco Hardware.
