About Christopher Quaka

I've been fortunate to work in and around non-profits for nearly 20 years. From 2001 as an AmeriCorps NCCC member, to my current role at the Benton Community Foundation, I have traveled all over the country and served alongside amazing people while helping communities. I've supported communities in West Virginia to improve their regional economy, led disaster rebuilding efforts in Mississippi and Louisiana after Hurricanes Katrina and Ike and for 10+ years have worked in Oregon to feed, house, and support people who are in poverty or experiencing homelessness. I enjoy collaborating with community members, volunteers, and other non-profits, as we work together to make positive changes in the lives of our neighbors.

    I was extremely fortunate to direct the fundraising efforts of Community Outreach Inc. COI has an amazing 45 year plus track record of serving people in need throughout the mid-Willamette Valley. At COI I focused on creating long lasting relationships between our community and the organization. I oversaw the agency’s grant writing efforts, statistics, volunteers, fundraising events, website, social media presence, liaison with the media, and led our annual donor solicitation efforts. These tasks were coordinated with the agency’s leadership, including the Board of Directors, in an effort to raise the necessary funding that supported COI’s mission of helping people to help themselves lead healthy and productive lives.

During my tenure I also worked with the Board of Directors to update the agency’s mission and vision statements, launched a new website, created collateral pieces (annual reports, newsletters, brochures), and integrated communication efforts across multiple electronic media platforms. Over the course of 2 years, I spearheaded the grant writing efforts of the agency securing $475,000 of grant funding. Lastly, I coordinated regular volunteer events which resulted in more than $95,000 in funding for the agency annually.

    As a Unit Leader for AmeriCorps NCCC, I provided leadership to 80, 18-24 year olds in a national service program that yielded over 140,000 community service hours annually. I was regularly deployed to disaster areas (Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Ike, 2010 Nashville Floods) to help non-profits, community leaders, and elected officials aid communities as they began disaster recovery efforts.
