I conducted independent research at Chesapeake Bay Governors School on the prevalence of macroparasites in Crassostrea virginica under varying water conditions. My research quantified the severity and prevalence of macro-parasitic intrusions, Polydora websteri and Zaops ostreus, in Crassostrea virginica, analyzing the relationships with varying water conditions, including temperature, salinity, and geographic location. I presented my findings at the Junior Science Humanities Symposium at Longwood University and Virginia Commonwealth University, where I received exemplary recognition. Additionally, I earned an honorable mention at the Virginia Junior Academy of Sciences and received an award from the Virginia Museum of Natural History for my contribution to the study and interpretation of Virginia's natural heritage.

The SPAT aquaculture program was conducted in collaboration with Virginia Tech and Rappahannock Community College. In my role as a lab intern, I facilitated oyster spawning and managed the development of oyster spat through to shell seeding. I was also responsible for creating and maintaining algal cultures to feed the oyster spat throughout my internship. Additionally, I monitored surrounding water parameters for intake and oversaw the sanitation protocols of the laboratory. Along with this internship I completed an eight week course dedicated to economic and community engagement through aquaculture in addition to the science and processes behind it.
