I worked within the longshoreman labor union at the State Pier in New London as a longshoreman. Our work was primarily team-based labor focused on unloading safely, quickly, and in a controlled manner to ultimately sort, organize, and distribute to various owners/buyers. This looked like construction-level attire and PPE, 12 hour days of lifting 50lbs of wooden boards and metal chains inside the hold of giant cargo ships. This work matured me into a man and paid off my undergrad degree.
