I currently run the library at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga. As we are a small school of about 400 undergraduates, I end up wearing a lot of hats. I manage the library staff, oversee library strategy, negotiate contracts, catalog, and provide reference services.The library's mission is to provide research help and material for Stockholm School of Economics in Riga students and faculty and also to be available to the general public as a resource for economics, business, finance, and social science literature in English. I have made providing services to students at other colleges and universities in the Riga area a priority. We have just instituted a policy that allows any student with a valid student ID to borrow material from our collections. We are the first library in Riga to offer this service, and I hope others will follow suit.In addition to my duties at the library I am also a lecturer focusing on teaching research methods, proper referencing, and critical thinking. I am responsible for checking student papers for plagiarism and for grading in such courses as Academic Studies and Critical Thinking, Business Ethics, and Organization and management. I advise bachelor's theses and sit on the Degree Committee at SSE Riga.I believe the library is at the center of the academic institution, providing space for ideas and people to collide.
