As the first data hire at Propel, I've worn many hats, ranging from data engineering to analytics and machine learning. I created the company's first data warehouse with Snowflake, Fivetran, and dbt, enabling analytics to flourish throughout the organization. I envisioned, trained, and productionized machine learning models to power features and prevent fraud in Block's peer-to-peer money sending app, the Cash App. Some highlights:- Created a customer support autoresponder which automatically resolved hundreds of thousands of cases while maintaining customer satisfaction comparable to human responses. This greatly reduced costs while improving the overall customer support experience. - Launched a model which intervened when money was sent to an incorrect recipient, improving customer satisfaction and lowering chargeback exposure and support complaints.- Worked on a team to deploy the first deep learning model at Cash.- Used machine learning paired with network analysis to detect, prevent, and mitigate account takeovers.

I applied machine learning, optimization, and mathematical modeling to the challenges of privacy, anonymity, and algorithmic bias, specifically focused on location data and advertising. My projects included de-anonymizing large datasets of user data, constrained optimization for fair ML, inferring demographics from location data, and understanding the economics of privacy in advertising. My adviser was Augustin Chaintreau. I have hundreds of citations with an h-index of 10, with publications in venues like SIGCHI and WWW.

Propel's goal is to make America's safety net more user-friendly through software. I consult with the Propel team, helping to understand and leverage their data to better serve their users.

I supported the analytics team by building data ingestion pipelines, procuring useful datasets, entity resolution, and feature engineering. I automated and improved upon existing daily campaign analytics processes, and wrote "rapid response'' scripts for time-sensitive data requests. Additionally, I conducted staff training on introductory command line (shell) use and SQL.

As an intern at Microsoft Research New York, I launched a Bing feature which phrases query results about country statistics in terms of US States to better improve user comprehension and memory. I developed this feature in a data driven manner by modeling user estimates when prompted with different states as reference objects. I obtained this data from thousands of crowd-sourced participants through a web interface I created.

I created the developer tutorial for Google Cardboard that launched to thousands at Google I/O 2014. I used machine learning to improve the input on the Cardboard VR device to work more reliably across more devices.

Developed a tool that rewrote mobile app binaries to prevent data pre-fetching. Pre-fetching is great if you have a lot of data left on your plan. If you don't, apps can eat up your data by downloading images that you never look at. The tool automatically delayed using data until an item was viewable on the screen, saving cost-sensitive users data on their plan at the expense of a potentially slower loading app.

Two major projects:* Developed a model of information valuation and a market for exchanging private information. Evaluated this model on a dataset of browsing information for a major European city.* Analyzed attitudes towards privacy in Spain. Developed a Firefox plugin and a server to monitor survey participants, ask questions at crucial times (such as during uploads of pictures to social networks), and record results.
