Senior Manager Operating Rules
CurrentPrimary Purpose:Manages the Operating Rules group's activities to publish operating manuals, support operations, and monitor compliance with rules, regulations, and procedures that govern the operation of trains, railway equipment, and employees on the Norfolk Souther system.Principle Duties: - Reviews, revises, and issues operating rules for field operations, which provide a uniform set of operating procedures for the most efficient operation of railroad equipment system wide. - Facilitates the development and issuance of subdivision timetables, operations bulletins, and other operations publications. - Reviews the rules and operating procedures and recommends changes as required and performs this function as a member of the Operating Rules Committee. - Assists senior management with publishing timetables, operations bulletins, and operating manuals (rule books) to reflect rule and instruction changes. - Recommends use of certain fair and impartial efficiency tests to enhance compliance with operating rules. Provides guidance to supervision and supporting departments on rule application and use of rules database for recording efficiency tests. - Assts with rules classes, examinations and other documents designed to promote employee education and understanding of operating rules. - Must keep familiar with any applicable statutes or administrative rules or regulations which affect railroad operations. - Participates in industry operating rule committees as directed.
