As part of the onboard SMT my role is responsible for the running and maintenance of the cargo systems to ensure the safe transport of the LNG whilst managing the containment boil off to provide fuel for the engines. Also the loading and discharging operations of the LNG and associated machinery.

Working for Stena as a marine engineer since graduating university I have had several promotions seeing me in charge of numerous types of machinery required for the safe running and efficient operations necessary for the successful business of shipping whilst maintaining the high standards expected of a highly reputable company.

In this role I was responsible for the DFDE's along with the ships other auxiliaries, ensuring the 3 x 12V main generator engines were fully maintained and capable of running on the LNG boil off to provide the power required for the ships electrical propulsion to run at full speed at all times.

During a secondment I worked as assistant superintendent, learning and assisting in the various duties required for the successful running of numerous ships under the superintendents control. This included the updating and arranging of required certification, planning and preparation for dry docking and the tenders. Aswell as undertaking some project work creating a major database using Microsoft access.

Primarily dealing with the needs of the customer and providing the service they expected. Opening and closing up the shop. Banking and cashing up large sums of money under confidence of the manager. Organising work schedules and ensuring a high standard of care to the customers and staff alike.

I worked my summer holidays for a maintenance company with various work scopes including investigating sewage system blockages and digging out/repairing underground pipework. Building works. High pressure jet operations to clean blocked sewage lines and labouring to roofers.
