About Christopher Shoop-Worrall
An educator and team leader with extensive, award-winning experience designing and implementing innovative content and student-focused experiences across multiple education institutions. Strong record of partnership creation and management; audience engagement; innovative online communication strategies; team management and setting best practice. Alongside academia, my primary professional pursuits have focused around education and widening participation. In order to self-fund my MA, I spent a year working in a secondary school in North London, during which time I was promoted from a TA to a Cover Supervisor and University Admissions Advisor to the Sixth Form. Moreover, throughout my undergraduate degree I worked as a Student Advocate for Educational Opportunities: The University of Liverpool’s Outreach and WP team. For my work in this field, I was a nominated finalist for the 2013 Student Employee of the Year.

Christopher’s PhD project will look at the ways in which differences in printed discourse and journalistic language altered public understanding of political reality in Edwardian Britain. Its aim is to provide a new and extensive understanding of relationships between the press, the public and political parties in the era of pre-Gallup proto-mass democracy, as well as a vital addition to existing work on pre-Great War political culture.Christopher began his PhD studies in the Department of Journalism studies in September 2015, having received a full departmental scholarship through the University. Immediately before this, he completed his MA in historical research at the University of Sheffield, for which he focused on Edwardian political culture and the relationship between Liberal government policy and mainstream press depictions. In 2013, he graduated with first class honours in history from the University of Liverpool.
