Profile bio

About Christopher Slee

I possess a keen interest in policy research and analysis that has been further developed and refined through my studies in psychology at Flinders University. My extensive work history with headspace, Australia's national youth mental health foundation, has emphasised for me how evidenced-based research and effective policy can be translated into practical programs for improving the mental health and wellbeing of people in our community. I am currently completing a PhD at Flinders University investigating the impact of a sports-focused secondary school curriculum on student wellbeing outcomes. This project will deliver novel insights into how sport, education, and wellbeing intersect and is needed at a time when adolescent mental health is in global decline and schools are being frequently identified as ideal environments to address a range of youth outcomes.

Listed skills include Research, Public Speaking, Mental Health, Teamwork, and 19 others.

Phd Candidate

Current

I am currently completing a PhD at Flinders University investigating how secondary student wellbeing emerges in a cohort of students studying at a South Australian Sport School. My research will contribute to enhancing knowledge and practice concerning systems of school education and student wellbeing within a sports-based context. The influence of sport on wellbeing is a well documented phenomena, with a range of positive (feelings of positive affect, self-esteem) and potential negative (risk of burnout, injury) outcomes reported in the literature. Sport Schools present a unique model of study for secondary students, which provides students the opportunity to merge their interests in sport with educational outcomes. Despite their recent rise in popularity, research documenting student wellbeing outcomes at Sport Schools is scarce. My research will contribute knowledge to identified gaps in student wellbeing, alternate models of education, and the blending of wellbeing with educational curricular in a sports-based setting.
