My mission at the FAA was to analyze the impacts on navigation and visual aids for proposed airport projects, ensure successful operation of existing navigation and visual aids, and to develop engineering solutions to improve current navigation or visual aid performance if deemed necessary. My primary area of focus was the Instrument Landing System and all associated components, to include Distance Measuring Equipment, Runway Visual Range, Approach Lightning Systems, and Visual Glide Slope Indicators, as well as knowledgeable on basic theory and operation for VOR, TACAN, ASR, and PRM systems.Accomplishments:- Ensured federally funded Eastern Region airports were in compliance with the Runway Safety Area (RSA) program by updating spreadsheet trackers- Verified that all terminal navigational and visual aids involved in airport projects were in standards with FAA orders- Served as an engineering liaison between the AEA-600 Airports Office and AJW-E14 Technical Operations Office for Runway Safety Area projects concerning navigation and visual aids impact to performance and safety of flight- Conducted site visits, siting analysis for a temporary offset Runway 4 localizer, and participated in planning meetings with FAA engineers, LGA PANYNJ, LGA ATCT, and NY TRACON personnel for the LGA RWY 4/22 EMAS and potential RWY 4 localizer relocation projects- Conducted siting and TERPS analysis for ABE RWY 6/24 glide slope relocation, JFK RWY 4R ALSF-2 shelter, and JFK RWY 4L/22R extension projects- Provided inputs for the suitability of an offset PAPI for the LGA RWY 31 Expressway Visual Approach and integration of ALSF-2 in-pavement flasher light cans at EWR- Participated in site visits to JFK to inspect the RWY 22R EMAS and ACY to conduct an airport compliance inspectionCertifications:- Lightning Protection, Grounding, Bonding, Shielding for FAA Ground Facilities Workshop Certification, AJW-221 (June 2013)
