Profile bio

About Christopher Spears

I have about ten years of experience in the visual effects and animation industries. Lately a lot of my work has been focused on using my Python programming skills to augment the Nick pipeline with Shotgun and Deadline. Our lighters love using Shotgun with Nuke because they do not need to think about where to save files or how to name them, which allows them to quickly iterate on shots. They also love the Import Media app, which allows them to quickly generate multiple versions by dragging and dropping movies into a simple GUI. Using both the Shotgun and Deadline APIs, I pump data from completed Maya jobs into the Shotgun database. When a render completes, a proxy is generated and uploaded for previews as well. I recently ported one our tools that breaks up animatics into smaller movies from running on a Rush render farm with Python 2.7 to running on a Deadline farm with Python 3.6.All of our productions generate assets. Most of these assets are images that need metadata embedded into them. I wrote a tool to do this, which has become the back end of a metadata pipeline. I then supervised an intern, who wrote a basic GUI to allow users to update the metadata in a folder of images. I updated the tool, so it would run on both Windows and Mac OS.

Listed skills include Python, Visual Effects, Mel, Linux, and 23 others.
