Offered strategic climate mitigation guidance and policy insights for local and regional governments. Authored peer-reviewed papers and led research for Terrapin’s ecological design vertical, PHOEBE. Notable projects include:The New York Mayor’s Office of Sustainability, 80x50 Buildings Technical Working Group: Our consultant team helped coordinate an 80-person technical working group for NYC’s Roadmap to 80x50, a policy guide to reduce carbon emissions from the city’s building sector 80% by 2050. I directly supported the compilation and analysis of NYC’s first ever comprehensive database of building performance incorporating metered data and audited building system information from LL84 and LL87 and other sources. GoogleNY Campus at 111 8th Avenue. Developed the first comprehensive sustainability plan for 111 8th, a single, city-block sized building containing over a million sqft of leased and owner-occupied commercial real estate. Evaluated the environmental impacts of select capital improvement projects and wrote novel Ecosystem-based Performance Metrics.Community Solutions, NYCHA Tilden Houses super-block retrofit proposal. We oversaw a grassroots, resident-driven effort to develop an design concept for a NYCHA “superblock” that would enabled the phased renovation of 998 derelict housing authority apartments and the construction of 151 new affordable housing units while achieving sustainability goals including: 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, major improvements in indoor air quality, on-site stormwater management, re-urbanization of the superblock, and the addition significant disaster resiliency measures.

Sustainable city planning, ecological research, and coastal resiliency planning.Projects include:King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) consultant to Koetter Kim & Associates Developing sustainable design strategies for a ground-up city for 300k people in Saudi Arabia designed around the transition to renewable energy sources. Developed innovative industrial ecosystem plans using municipal material flows and novel water management infrastructures, including a geothermal wetland that built and patented by UEDLCoastal Resiliency Planning in CT with UEDL and the Nature Conservancy. We conducted flood risk and vulnerability analysis for towns along the coast using detailed Sea Level Rise projections. Our team designed living shoreline and tidal land management regimes allowing for the migration of historic salt marshes.
