Used to wonder how I ended up in IT with an Audio Production degree. I guess they do have some connection.“Audio production is the process of creating and manipulating sound to achieve the desired result. In IT, audio production is often used in multimedia projects such as videos, websites, and computer games. Audio production involves recording, editing, mixing, and mastering sound. It also involves working with different types of software and hardware tools that enable the production teams to create high-quality audio content. The goal of audio production in IT is to ensure that sound enhances the user's experience and adds value to their interaction with technology. A well-produced sound can increase engagement, create a sense of immersion, and communicate important information in a clear and concise way. Therefore, audio production plays a significant role in creating effective and engaging IT projects.”I also help do Audio Video setups for conferences and part of that is ensuring the best audio quality.My first AV job out of college was very difficult (for me anyway) I had never used power tools to install audio video equipment, terminated cables, and it was a lot of demanding physical labor. Climbing ladders with a heavy projector, tools on your belt, and the added pressure that dropping this projector could be a big bill was daunting. Not only that but if you didn’t do it right you could be putting lives in danger.I moved from that first job to what I thought to be a better job due to the pay and the fact that they also had drawings for their teleconferencing systems! I eventually switched to a different role in this job as well. I became a part of the help desk working with IT to setup codecs and troubleshoot issues remotely for teleconferencing systems.After this role the next significant jump in my career was for a large network of public schools. It was mostly remote over the phone troubleshooting. Which had some interesting issues to solve but at the end of the day I was a glorified password changer.Here I am now working for a healthcare technology/medical device company Remotely assisting users as well as onsite support. This has been by far the most immersive IT role I have landed. I plan on getting many certifications to increase my knowledge but personally I have learned the most from valued mentors, peers, and most importantly from the needs of the users who have taught me how to ask the proper questions to get to the desired resolution and yes in the worst cases a work around until a solution can be found.
