Joint Terminal Attack Controller (1C471)165Th Air Support Operations Squadron Mar 2003 - Mar 2011Savannah, Georgia AreaPrimary mission is to provide Close Air Support to troops on the battlefield. This includes being an Air Force Liaison with all other branches of the Military and often with other countries also. This is comprised of making sure that Commanders have a good working knowledge of what the weapons systems involved are capable of. As a secondary part of the job, our knowledge of communication is called into play when we must set up remote communications using standard ground based radios and satellite communications to ensure a constant flow of information is processed from the battlefield to the planning areas in the Base Operations Area. We often work in two or three man teams and are expected to be autonomous always. The training involved gives us a breadth of knowledge that allows the JTAC to perform his duties with minimal to no supervision.
