Decided to upskill and joined the 5th Cohort for HR professionals at Korn Ferry (a world leader for HR consultancy). After 6 months of lessons, culminating in running a HR project for a local SME, I graduated with professional HR certification.As a line manager for many years, I had already performed many HR functions. By combining my prior work experience with industry knowledge, this program has deepened my appreciation of how HR is a Strategic Business Partner that has direct impact on any company’s bottom line. Scoot was growing fast and furious when I was headhunted to join them in 2014. I led the Crew Performance team and a year later, was asked to lead the Cabin Safety team as well. Juggling with 2 teams under my care was only possible because I had fantastic team members to back me up. I wasn’t supposed to be working on the day when it was announced Scoot was merging with Tigerair, but this was a townhall I wasn’t going to miss. Rivals were joining forces to become one of the largest low-cost carrier in the region and I was in the thick of the action. Both airlines had different strategies, different cultures, different demographics. It was tough trying to fly in formation together but after more than a year, we did it. When I joined Scoot, I had a small team caring for about 300 cabin crew. When I left almost 5 years later, we were more than 1300 strong. I couldn’t have thrived without my “Angels” in Crew Performance and my Safety Instructors in Cabin Safety. Thanks guys and gals for this incredible journey!

Everyone is selling something some of the time, that's what I've been told. So off I went to acquire selling techniques in Real Estate. It was a good short run where I was awarded Top Rookie/ Top Manager/ Top 300 Sales Achiever within first year.But when an offer came in to rejoin the aviation industry, I couldn't resist.

This is where I grew up. 17 years and 8 months. Joining as a management trainee in cabin crew division, I was rotated through assignments within the division. The bulk of the time was spent as an Executive (Check/ Trainer). What that meant was that I would do classroom training and inflight audits, while managing a “ward” of about 6 teams of cabin crew. Hence, I was also referred to as a Ward Leader. I had an average of 200 crew in my care during my tenure.The SARS outbreak in 2003 hit Asian airlines particularly hard and the division underwent major restructuring with many of my colleagues retrenched. My role had to adapt to the new structure. Eventually, I opted for the role of an Inflight Manager and concluded my career in SIA as Inflight Auditor. My core duties involved recruitment (in Singapore as well as at overseas stations), training, performance management and employee engagement of flight attendants.Key achievements/ duties:- Co-developed upward feedback system for Crew-In-Charge.- Participated as core team member for launch of SOAR (Service Over and Above the Rest), an initiative to raise service standards beyond that of competitors.- Chairman of service finesse committee, tapping on crews’ innovative and creative ideas to raise finesse in service delivery, particularly in First and Business classes.- Carried out inflight service audits, ensuring compliance to established service standards.- Conducted service training for new hires.- Conducted leadership training for senior crew.- Served as Buddy-Coordinator at Taipei disaster site (SQ 006, 2000).- Served as Buddy to Next-Of-Kin at Palembang disaster site (MI 185, 1997).
