About Christopher Tharp
Christopher Tharp is a doctoral candidate in the Political Science and International Relations Department. His focus at the University of Delaware is in American and Comparative politics. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts in Writing for Film and Television. He earned his master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Delaware, and his thesis concerned the politics of memory, particularly commemorating the events of September 11 at the 9/11 Museum and Memorial. Christopher has presented his research on the politics of memory and disasters locally and internationally. Most of his additional work has critically examined the colonization of Puerto Rico, focusing on events during the American Century and beyond—up through the so-called “Debt Crisis” and Hurricane Maria. Christopher serves as the First-Year Mentor Coordinator (2018-2019) for the Political Science Graduate Student Association. He has also completed Advanced Community Emergency Response Training for the New Castle Emergency Management and Citizen Corps.
