I put together digital files for presentations and instigated a digital imposition catalogue which is still in use today. Produced & emailed schedules to individual blue-chip customers. Sourced, controlled and negotiated all out work. I also controlled overtime & shift work in various departments.Prior to becoming the Production Manager I was the Reprographics Manager where I introduced Zenith Print & Packaging to ‘Digital Technology’ by starting up the reprographics department, two years previously only a manual department existed and it was decided to out source reprographics, so this was a new venture for Zenith. My day to day routine was to attend daily production meetings and co-ordinate closely with the production manager. My main role was IT and production for the department, sourcingNew hardware and software, training myself and training others while also keeping up with a very busy production schedule. Myself and 2 other colleagues took the manual stages of a successful Reprographic company into the digital era. Investing in ‘New Technology’ and extensive training eventually employing an extra 5 staff. Built up a very good relationship between ourselves and Zenith Print & Packaging with that company purchasing shares in the ‘Film Studio’ in 1994.

I joined Merlin as a 4 Colour Planner to gain experience in Pre-Press , I felt the 3 people who owned the company were very knowledgeable in the trade and I could learn new techniques which had before been unavailable to me due to the type of work my previous employer specialised in. I did gain a lot more knowledge and confidence with this new venture.

I served my 4 year Pre-Press apprenticeship here, straight from School, gaining early qualification and a ‘diploma in printing’. On qualifying I looked for further opportunities within the company and completed a course in typesetting and touch typing, being one of the only two operators for this new venture for McLays. I was appointed Deputy Reprographics Manager for my last 2 years with the company.
