I've been a national critic since 1987, and recently left the Daily Mail after 20 years as its film critic, a couple of months after an award from the London Press Club as Arts Reviewer of the Year. In addition to journalism, I've worked as a Producer-Director in television for 13 years (credits include Revolver, After Dark, Network 7), produced, directed and composed numerous stage plays and musicals since 1973, and composed music for several long-running television series. I've also lectured and given after-dinner speeches.I've had four works of non-fiction published: Tookey's Turkeys, Tookey's Talkies, The Critics' Film Guide and Named & Shamed, an A to Z of the worst reviews ever, from Affleck to Zeta-Jones.Most recently, I've written three works of fiction (two comic thrillers - The Football Manager Murders & Another Fine Mess - and one comic fantasy epic, Scilly Seasons: Volume 1 of The Island Kingdom), a ballet (Jabberwocky, narrated by Sir Christopher Lee and performed in October 2015 by the National Youth Ballet) and am well advanced on two musicals (Dreams Come True and Jabberwocky, A School Musical), follow-ups to my last musical show in the West End (Hard Times, starring Roy Hudd and Brian Blessed).
