CAREER HISTORY – Preston City Council – Assistant Accountant – January 2011 – PresentProviding assistance to the Senior and Principle Accountants and Budget Holders I carried out the same tasks as stated below but with extensive detail and presented more of the analysis personally to meet the specific needs of each individual. Most recently I have been given responsibility of being the finance contact for our latest Government funded infrastructure projects which have budgets in excess of a £1m. I provide Project Managers with up to date costings, monitoring information regarding expenditure v budgets and completion of grant claims to government funded organisations such as Heritage Lottery Fund or Big Lottery Fund.I provide monthly monitoring reports for the Directors, Assistant Directors and Managers, this is mainly used to highlight any significant variances and give them a clear picture of the financials under their control. As well as providing the above I also update balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis and in some instances create new ones ready for the senior accountants to verify.I allocate the Engineers, Building Management and Landscape architects across all the interdisciplinary areas on a monthly basis.On a monthly basis I allocate the interdepartmental recharges for telephones, postage and utilities. I also provide forecasts at any given time to management and provide budgets at each yearly budget process.I am often given ad-hoc work by the senior accountants which requires me gathering and analysing financial information and presenting it in excel. The tasks below are not as frequent as above but I undertake when necessary: - • I update Cash flow Forecasts and Bank Reconciliations• I assist the senior accountants with regards to the completion of the Annual Statement of Accounts ready for the external auditors to sign off. I also deal with auditor queries as and when they require.• I check/create Stock Reconciliations

This role provided me with a wider scope and experience of accountancy procedures and processes. I was part of a team of four and that provided finance information for all the council’s externally funded projects. This meant interaction with project managers and their project teams to assist with all matters relating to finance such as forecasts, submission of grant claims to funded bodies and monthly monitoring. During my years in this role I gained more experience and confidence from my team leaders that they started letting me be the finance contact for some of our projects, in particular parks development which was a huge responsibility but very rewarding. This meant me going to meetings and updating the project teams with an up to date financial appraisal and highlighting any areas for concern regarding the budgets. The projects I was dealing with at the time generally had project spend of about £250k so it was very important project managers where kept up to date on their financial position.
