In the capacity of an Adult Detention Officer or Correctional Officer, my primary duty was to uphold safety and order within a correctional facility, home to individuals awaiting trial or serving sentences.My role necessitated stringent supervision of inmates, enforcing facility rules. This included observing daily activities like meals, exercise, work tasks, and personal hygiene routines. Conducting headcounts to account for all inmates was essential.I was also tasked with overall facility security. This involved regular cell inspections, living quarters, and workspaces for contraband. Ensuring functional security measures, including locks, gates, windows, and alarms, was also critical. I monitored inmates for potential security risks, intervening and reporting incidents as necessary.Maintaining comprehensive records was a significant part of my role. I documented inmate behavior, including rule violations, complaints, unusual behavior, medical issues, or injuries, ensuring inmates received necessary healthcare services.I contributed significantly to the inmates' rehabilitation process. I supervised educational, vocational, and therapeutic programs, aiding inmates in their eventual societal reintegration.Being an Adult Detention Officer, I was often the first responder during emergencies. Trained in handling situations like fights, medical emergencies, fires, or escape attempts, I had to act swiftly to secure the facility and ensure safety.Engaging with inmates, often in high-stress situations, my robust interpersonal skills were pivotal. I communicated effectively, managed conflicts, maintained authority, while respecting the inmates' dignity.
