Catastrophe model validation internship.

Following on from the success of Chasing Ice Durham and Climate Change Question Time, my co-organiser (David Saddington) and I were granted further funds to put on larger climate change communication event in 2015 in Newcastle. Ice & Climate was an event run by David and myself in partnership with individuals from Durham, Newcastle, and Northumbria Universities, and support from the National Environmental Research Council and The Centre for Life. The event, held in late May 2015, consisted of a large outdoor cinema, interactive science exhibitions and an evening debate with professionals working in climate science, communication and policy. My main responsibilities were the planning and coordination of the interactive science exhibitions, ensuring compliance with health & safety requirements, and organising and managing volunteers on the day.The event was featured extensively in the media gaining coverage in the Northern Echo, The Metro, The Journal and The Chronicle as well as on regional radio. Myself and David Saddington organised a large scale outdoor cinema screening of the award winning climate change documentary 'Chasing Ice' in the historic heart of Durham City to raise awareness of climate change. The event was sponsored by Durham University, Durham County Council, Liberty Specialty Markets, NERC, Altogether Greener and Josephine Butler College, together covering the event costs that exceeded £6000.My responsibilities involved securing insurance for the event through comprehensive risk assessment and compliance with local authority measures, organising volunteers through detailed low level planning, event publicity and liaising with staff across the University.The film screening on the 13th June was followed by a public discussion in Durham Town Hall called 'Climate Change Question Time'.
