Much to my family's dismay, I moved away from home to pursue a political science degree in Indianapolis. In case you don't know, it's not much different from a philosophy degree in terms of the subject matter. My college experience, however, would reshape my world in ways I never imagined. After graduating, I lived and worked in communities of color, interned for the state legislature, and served people in desperate need in communities abroad. Most of my career has been spent in the nonprofit sector. As an alum of the US Peace Corps and a two-time AmeriCorps volunteer, I have dedicated my professional life to improving others' outcomes. Though I have gained technical skills like grant management and developing strong interpersonal relationships with clients, my proudest career accomplishments are as follows:* Coached hundreds of high school students on goal-setting, study skills, time management, and academic success * Served communities with 3400 AmeriCorps service hours and 15 months abroad* Designed trainings on topics such as neurodiversity, time/money management, and effective youth programming* Delivered health and agricultural education to hundreds of people in rural Africa* Accumulated eight years of experience in ensuring academic and career readiness, working with diverse populations.I am a living example of how "studying philosophy" in college can improve outcomes and lead to meaningful career accomplishments. My career goals are service oriented because I enjoy helping people achieve their dreams, and I cannot wait to see where my job will take me.
