My first-ever Staff Accounting role at a Vancouver-based firm was a fabulous learning experience!At the time, the office was staffed only by the Owner / Operator and me. Since he would be frequently interacting with clients, I didn't want to interrupt him; nor did I have the luxury of asking a co-worker how to perform an intricate task. As a result, I was forced to learn things on my own. Ultimately, I wanted to do the Owner / Operator proud. Since then, the fundamentals of my role have - for the most part - remained the same; as I have progressed in my career, I have learned the importance of professional - yet personable - interaction with clients to earn their loyalty and retention.Speaking of which …When I tell people what I do for a living, they are shocked. The reason: Accounting personnel have been stereotyped as boring individuals who number-crunch all day and are hunched over a calculator. I believe that my knack for quickly earning a client's trust, confidence, and respect shatters that stereotypical myth. Why did I choose accounting as a vocation? Absorbing mathematical theories have always been my strong suit, having excelled in this subject for most of my academic life; however, I didn't initially jump in "feet first" into the accounting realm. Originally beginning my career in customer service, I quickly learned how to remain calm and composed when facing non-stop stress. Come to think of it, I have learned my greatest lessons (i.e., precise accounting and primo customer service) while on the job! And … I continue to embark on a learning curve where the ultimate goal is for me to earn my CPA designation.Going forward, I wish to align with an organization that strives to unlock employee potential while embracing a culture of excellence.
