Christopher Walker is a hands-on player-coach with an extensive knowledge of web- and language-data technologies. Working with diverse teams of engineers, linguists and analysts, Christopher has often managed dozens of language technology projects in parallel, for tasks as varied as speech detection in Dari, speaker identification in Farsi, information retrieval in Chinese and transliteration of Berber Tifinagh. In 2018, he co-founded MarvelousAI, an early stage startup building an augmented analytics platform to provide actionable insights regarding online narratives by combining the power of human-in-the-loop learning with the latest in natural language processing, computational linguistics, and machine learning. MarvelousAI is focused on how messaging spreads in online media, both negatively (propaganda) and positively (truth-based messages); which narratives persist over time; and the impact they have on overall discourse about a topic. In 2012, he co-founded idibon and built a state-of-the-art natural language processing API to serve enterprise clients in the management of large-scale data, both structured and unstructured. Prior, he brought his Silicon Valley experience to bear modernizing the software group at the Linguistic Data Consortium, the world’s largest collection of language data covering machine translation, speech recognition and text mining. Before that, he was responsible for language data and evaluation at the web search startup Powerset--leveraging not only traditional and crowd-sourced methods of corpus creation, but also hybrid methods that incorporated the HLT under development. Responsible for all NLP evaluation at Powerset, he developed a unique crowd-driven methodology for the evaluation of complex semantic graphs. Later, when Powerset was acquired by Bing, Christopher implemented a hybrid process for review summarization that layered PARC's NLP parsing technology with standard statistical methods.
