Working both the front end and back end of applications at startups with less than ten people, as well as multi-million dollar studios with international divisions, has given me the ability to quickly adapt to new languages and platforms. I enjoy working in startup atmospheres and corporate cultures alike as long as a studio is filled with passionate individuals who are committed to making a great product. I joined the Canadian-based HB Studios as an engineer from the United States in February of 2013. Fleck Touch – A 2D social MMO on iOS and the web- Learnt the ins and outs of Fleck’s architecture, from the Java server, to the iOS client, to the HTML5 UI that the player interacts with- Picked up Java, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Obj-C, PHP, and became comfortable with these languages- Engineered many of the UI features in Fleck, including two major overhauls of the UI on iOS and the web, all done in HTML5 to consolidate the code base- Created new client functionality on iOS using Objective-C- Optimized performance for lower-end iOS devices regarding memory consumption, load times and overall gameplay performance- Implemented new components on our server in Java built according to spec with regular updates with my tech lead and designer to ensure what I was creating was to their satisfaction - Communicated effectively with artists and designers to create the best look and feel for our UIBig Fish Casino for iOS, Android and Facebook- Helped to lead the engineering of a completely new Slots game for Big Fish Casino, taking previous experience with Fleck and applying it to this new product- Gained an in-depth knowledge of the slot machine implementation, from server to client- Programmed the server-side logic for the “battle slots” mini game in PHP- Wrote the Food Fight slot machine battle layout in HTML5, using CSS designs from our web designer- Responded to feedback from the design team regarding balancing and the look of the battle slot machine- Saved the player’s battle state in memcache/database so that they may return at any point they wish- Implemented the scatter bonus feature by leveraging the current system’s abilities and adding functionality- Created the “Plinko” mini-game in HTML5, using real time physics to create realistic looking animations- Participated in weekly engineering meetings to assess our goals for that week and track our overall progress
