The Spiritual Care program at CSU is connected to Health Education and Prevention Services within the Health Network. The spiritual care resident has dedicated space within the Health and Medical Center on campus. The spiritual care resident is involved in a wide range of service, including seeing students individually for spiritual care, participating in various support groups for students, acting as liaison to denominational ministries on campus, and being available to support the campus community in times of crisis and for special events. The Manager of Resiliency and Well-Being Initiative serves as the clinical mentor to the spiritual care resident.Fort Collins Clinical Pastoral Education (FCCPE) is a Satellite CPE program of the University ofColorado – UCHealth CPE program. FCCPE was established in 2017 and is located in FortCollins, CO. The program was created through a partnership between Colorado State University,Columbine Health Systems (a provider of care to the senior community), and Poudre ValleyHospital – UCHealth. FCCPE’s sponsoring institutions have collaborated over the past severaldecades in caring for the communities of Northern Colorado and surrounding areas. They havealso contributed to educating future caregivers in the health care field and other contexts. Eachinstitution exhibits leadership in the community in the area of their expertise.In recent years within each of the institutions there has been an increasing awareness of the valueof supporting the spiritual well-being of the people to whom they provide care, service andeducation. The three institutions endeavored to leverage their historically strong workingrelationships with one another and jointly seek out resources that will help fulfill their missionsto serve the students, residents and patients in their care. Clinical Pastoral Education emerged as a resource particularly well suited to assist each of the institutions to support and enhancespiritual well-being.

Knoxville, Tennessee Area

I served with the Knox County-Knoxville Community Action Committee. My primary responsibility was to maintain lots owned by the city of Knoxville that were identified as neglected and were located in low-income neighborhoods. I coordinated volunteer groups to plant trees, weed and create and maintain gardens and other tasks. I was also involved in grant writing, event planning, fundraising for charities, and was on several committees including Emergency Food Helpers (EFH) and the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Highlands, Nc

I developed and implemented the music program for MountainCamp, and trained counselors to provide quality workshops and musical experiences. I worked with children ages 5-18. I also provided a daily reflections time for all camp and a Sunday worship service, as well as counseling duties and workshops for campers. I performed a variety of functions as a member of the Leadership Team including scheduling, event planning, conflict resolution, and many logistical tasks.

My responsibilities and activities were varied: I worked as a coordinator for youth conferences. I worked in the kitchen and in housekeeping. I recorded an album of original music as my personal creative project. I volunteered weekly at the Highland's Literacy Council. I spent time weekly in group discussions focusing on personal development.

My general responsibilities were to provide supervision and support to all camp staff, provide administrative support, and to coordinate the daily logistics of camp. I was involved in nearly every aspect of running summer camp, from counselor training to organizing evening programs to behavioral and disciplinary issues to meal time announcements.

Rennes Area, France

I was immersed in the French education system during my seven-month contract as an English Teaching Assistant in Rennes. I worked with students from 14 to 23 years of age, ranging from groups of four to entire classes of 20-30. I planned most of the lessons myself and focused on encouraging natural conversation among the students and creating a relaxing, positive atmosphere to facilitate learning.

My position as the Counselor in Training (CIT) Mentor meant that I was one of five Leadership Team members in charge of MountainCamp, but my main responsibility was the six teenagers (aged 16 and 17) I looked after for seven weeks. This is a leadership development program where young people gain leadership skills. They learn skills that help them not only in camp but throughout their lives, from critical thinking and risk assessment to community development. I oversaw and implemented CIT training, hiking and rafting trips, service projects, community building strategies and activities, day-to-day programming, and more.

As a Resident Assistant I performed a variety of functions, including addressing policy violations, ensuring safety of residents through regular duty rounds, programming for special events and community building, encouraging first year students to connect to campus life, and working with a diverse staff to realize common goals.

I spent one academic year living in Besançon and attending classes with French students at the Université de Franche-Comté. I spoke French daily and extensively, and gained confidence by learning how to live where the language and culture were not native to me. I was fortunate to have a diversity of living experiences: five months with French engineering students, two months with a host family, and two months on my own.

As a camp counselor in this international summer camp, I had the chance to work closely with other counselors and campers from all over the world. I worked in the music department, and taught three classes a day in addition to working as the sole counselor in charge of 4-8 kids, ages 8-10, for two week sessions each.

At the Mountain I had the chance to work with a variety of age groups, from 6-18 years of age. My responsibilities were diverse, including to foster friendship, provide guidance, create and maintain a safe space, be creative in programming and day-to-day interaction, maintain positivity and enthusiasm, to teach a variety of workshops, participate in planning and running workshops, evening programs, field time activities, and more, lead outdoor hikes and trips, be a first responder for medical emergencies, and work with a group of supportive staff towards common goals.
