A highly experienced international banker and advisory consultant with over 45 years of knowledge gained primarily whilst working with the Standard Chartered Bank Group in South and East Asia, the Middle East and North America, and later through undertaking advisory roles in Azerbaijan, Liberia, Trinidad and Vietnam. Christopher has experience of working with translators and delivered formal classroom training covering the identification and control of operational and credit risks to banking staff in Hanoi, Vietnam.Whilst working with local banks in Azerbaijan he enhanced their due diligence procedures to ensure awareness of the risks created by environmental and social issues and to achieve compliance with EBRD's specific requirements for environmental risk control. As part of an IFC sponsored intervention into the Liberian Bank for Investment and Development, Monrovia, Liberia, he delivered guidance and training to staff to upgrade and improve processes, controls and monitoring procedures in the Bank's credit operations. Improved procedure for bad debt management, an industry risk management process, improvements to documentation (including a process to allocate objectives to match the Bank's business plan), and an environmental risk due diligence matrix were delivered.Christopher has developed an extensive knowledge of the management of credit risk in both emerging and developed markets. This was achieved from his experience as an originator of credit proposals, auditing credit operations and from the exercise of a substantial (up to GBP2 million) personal discretionary lending authority. Although the majority of his experience and knowledge relates to the SME sector he has also dealt with major multinational names and has negotiated with senior government officials, diplomats and ruling family members.Specialties: Possesses a proven track record in the management of risk across all banking operations with a thorough understanding of the relationship between internal controls and audit techniques. Although his experience is primarily in the area of credit and general banking he has also managed audits of treasury and IT areas during his time in Hong Kong.
