Hawley Quier, former publisher of the Reading Eagle newspaper in Reading, PA, had avocations of golf and fishing. He came from a golfing family. Every member has long been identified with the game in the Eastern Pennsylvania area. Let him relate how the Moselem Springs Golf Club came into being:"Some years ago on what must have been the hottest day of that summer I sought relief for mind and spirit in the spring-fed pond on what was termed the 'family farm' at Moselem Springs. Moments later, raising my head from the surface of the water, I recall, vividly looking over the terrain and saying to myself, 'What a wonderful natural setting for a golf course!'"The 'family farm' is now a memory and a golf course has been designed and constructed by George Fazio which has surpassed by far the scope of my 'dream' and also some preliminary plans which were drafted by other capable golf architects."
  • Steel Club
    Pga Head Golf Professional
    Steel Club Feb 2020 - Aug 2020
The Club's origins began in September of 1934, when a group of 9 clubs, whose members were all part of the supervisory force of the Bethlehem Steel plant of Bethlehem, PA, petitioned the Commonwealth of PA to incorporate all 9 clubs into one non-profit corporation called the Bethlehem Steel Club. The Steel Club, as it came to be known, was originally formed to foster athletic sports, social interaction, good fellowship, and technical discussions. In 1946, the Steel Club acquired additional property adjacent to their existing club house location, and hired a world-renowned course architect, Donald Ross, to design and build an 18-hole course. The facility was opened in 1948 as a par 71 course. This golf course is extremely notable, as it was one of the very last that Donald Ross has had a personal hand in designing and building due to his declining health. In 1958, a second tract of land was purchased, and an additional 9 holes were built. On January 28, 1986, the club entered the second phase of existence, when it was officially named Silver Creek Country Club, and became a private non-profit corporation under the management of its members. In 2018, the Steel Club lives again, with new ownership and direction, the Steel Club team intends to build on past traditions and foster new ones as we embark on this exciting new chapter.

Lu Lu Country Club Jan 2013 - Dec 2013
A farm bordered by Limekiln Pike and Jenkintown Road was the birthplace of LuLu Country Club. George Cox owned the farm and during the first decade of the new century, he would invite his fellow Shriners from LuLu Temple to join him there for weekend picnics. In 1909 the golfing Shriners rented the farm with the intent to build a golf course. They refused to settle for anyone but the best course designer in America, Donald Ross. LuLu Temple was among his earliest efforts outside of Pinehurst. It was his first course in Pennsylvania. “It was conceived in love of a sporting game and born as a family in 1912. It is not a story of a stone and wood – nor is it a story of a beautiful golf course. These are tangibles. To me, it is a story of all people, through more than a half a century, gathered for friendship and fun, whose indomitable spirit has refused to concede defeat no matter what the obstacle."• Sold 59 annual golf memberships generating in excess of $195,000 in revenue. • Analyzed locker room utilization and relocated Ladies Locker Room creating a Brides Room and A Grooms Room which resulted in a 33% increase in wedding bookings for 2014. • Designed a complete refreshing of a 300 person ballroom and renovation of the historic Ross Pub & Patio including numerus hours locating historic Ross photos and news articles from the Tufts Archives in Pinehurst. • Built a low cost marketing plan to capitalize on 2013 US Open at Merion only minutes from facility which focused on utilizing ownership connections with Golf Channel on-air personality Matt Ginella and Kim Braly of KBS Shafts to help expand the reach of Lu Lu. • Implemented a Member Fore a Day program that resulted in 5 consecutive months of exceeding budgeted total facility revenue. • Launched a merchandising buying program exclusive to the membership, which helped promote a substantial increase in purchases.
