About Christopher Wignall
I am a dedicated, hard-working and enthusiastic individual with a passion for science and clinical research. I believe in fully applying myself to any task presented, doing the job to the best of my ability, and always giving my full commitment. I have worked in Clinical Research within the Hospital and Healthcare setting for almost 3 years, working on both commercially and academically sponsored clinical trials in the areas of Oncology and Surgery.Currently I am employed as a Senior Research Practitioner in the Surgery & Cancer Research Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Principally this requires my acting as lead contact for anything pertaining to the trials I am the senior staff member for, however, I have also taken on cross-site coordinating and project management-type responsibilities for several studies where our Trust is the lead site. Since starting in this role I have also worked tirelessly to increase the team’s involvement within the wider multi-disciplinary team through forming effective working relationships with the Surgical Research Team Lead and Principal Clinicians, in turn leading to increased productivity for our team and far greater engagement from the clinicians we work alongside. I have also expanded on my role’s responsibilities to include; involvement with clinical trial set-up; identification and review of new trials with an aim of our team participating; lead on creation and development of new projects within the team aimed at improving staff experience; and taking on the management of training for staff working with me directly.Prior to my current position I occupied a junior role within the same team, however due to staff shortages I stepped up to take the lead of multiple trials within the first two months of my appointment to the position. Previously I have worked as a Clinical Data Manager within the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit at University College London Hospital, also completing a volunteer internship within a Pharmacology Laboratory during my time at the University of Brighton.I have obtained an MSc Translational Medicine (Pass with Distinction) from King's College London and BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (2:1) from the University of Brighton. Work from my undergraduate research product formed part of a larger body of work with multiple collaborators, I was fortunate enough to attend the Cell Symposium conference 'Cancer, Inflammation & Immunity' held in Spain July 2015, fully funded by the university, where I presented a poster alongside Dr. Annamaria Gal.

Senior Research Practitioner
As the Senior Research Practitioner for the Lower GI Surgical Research Portfolio at ICHT, I was required to act as the primary contact for all clinical trials within the portfolio. I also acted as the designated lead coordinator for patient recruitment for all trials within the portfolio, assisted in the set-up of and opening of new trials, and generally oversaw the delivery of all protocol required activities within designated timelines. In addition to these responsibilities I set-up and lead a workgroup aimed at developing and improving the training & professional development pathways available to staff.

I worked as a Clinical Data Manager within the Cancer Clinical Trial Unit at University College London Hospital for just short of 18months, where I was responsible for the collection and reporting of clinical data to trial sponsors within strict deadlines, as well as coordinating a wide range of administrative aspects for commercially sponsored oncology trials across multiple teams. I also provided training to staff through my role as a ‘mentor’ and proactively sought to continue my own professional development through the attendance of numerous conferences and courses.

Between my second and third year studies at the University of Brighton I was able to further my laboratory skills through the undertaking of a six week placement in the pharmacology laboratories at the University of Brighton under the supervision of Prof. Paul Gard and Dr. Sara Fidalgo. During this placement I learnt multiple techniques including western-blotting, bradford assays and the running of organ baths, among others.
