The regenerator flue gas contains oxides of sulphur and nitrogen which are produced by coke burn-off in the regeneration process and catalyst fines. Under these current emission rates Samref Refinery has a commitment to the local authorities (RCYJ – Royal Commission for Yanbu and Jubail), to reduce FCC stack SOx emissions to the atmosphere. Sea water flue gas desulphurization (SWFGD) has been selected because it is a proven process that will solve both particulate and SOx emissions with a simple process scheme, moderate capital cost, and the lowest expected operating cost.
