The hunt for the root cause became an obsession.2: I had a stint with Australia's largest electronics retailer, managing multi-million dollar budgets month after month. Yet, as my wife, a nurse, shared her stories of saving lives every day, I couldn't help but feel my work lacked a certain purpose. She was saving lives, and I was selling TVs. It hit me like a lightning bolt—I needed to align my career with my passion, doing something that would positively impact lives.3: In my world, I've learned that if you're ever the smartest person in the room, it's time to find a new room. I'm lucky to be surrounded by brilliant minds in my current organisation, I embrace the opportunity to share insights, and I thrive on the notion that I can learn from those who outshine me. Each year, I'm reminded of the boundless talent out there. Age and industry are no barriers, and I'm constantly driven to elevate myself, fueled by inspiration rather than ego.4: Problems aren't setbacks in my book; they're puzzles and keep my work interesting. I am always seeking pathways to innovation. I see every challenge as an opportunity to innovate, and if I stumble, I do so eager to embrace the next opportunity. The decisions our data influences include city planning, accessibility, community programming, site redevelopment and more. My role in this includes:• Consulting with internal stakeholders and the community to understand the challenges people experience daily. • Developing and recommending solutions to validate the root cause of issues through data gathering and to help build a business case for an enduring and appropriate resolution.• Working with city planning teams to create development control plans to ensure smart infrastructure is built into space planning. • Installation of free public WiFi to abolish the digital divide in Australia and provide digital equity to Casey communities with socioeconomic, gendered, cultural and ableist barriers to accessing the internet.• Deploying a sensory IoT layer across the city to capture data about how the community uses various assets, facilities, and precincts to drive decision-making around accessibility, redevelopment requirements and the suitability of facilities in Casey.• Work with startups, local industry entrepreneurs and the education sector to understand community concerns and research barriers and provide them opportunities to explore solutions they have to offer through the process of a "living lab" that uses Casey as their test bed.• Experiment with new data-gathering solutions that utilise IoT technology for one-off small-scale prototype deployments.• Collaborate and network with other local government departments to replicate the success of smart city implementations in their municipalities.• Amalgamate and share collected data with the community using the Open Data Platform. -
