Data Analyst/Field Test EngineerIpec Ltd Apr 2012 - May 2015My role included working on-site at high voltage electrical substations around the UK and worldwide during which I conduct online electrical testing to detect, verify and locate sources of Partial Discharge (PD) on LV (Low Voltage), MV (Medium Voltage) and HV (High Voltage) assets – 3.3kV up to 300 kV, within switchgear and electrical cable assets. To be able to conduct this PD testing, I received internal on-the-job training as part of my role at IPEC from Senior Field Engineers. From this training, I have acquired expert technical knowledge on how to perform online PD cable mapping, using time-domain reflectometry to accurately identify small discharging sections of cables or cable joints to high precision and accuracy.Using my knowledge of PD detection, I interpreted the technical data acquired from the aforementioned tools/sensors to work with clients to provide 'real-world' PD solutions and recommendations based on test results for remedial action relating to their high value assets. In addition, I have gained technical knowledge of electrical engineering installations by installing permanent online monitoring systems at substations worldwide that are used to detect PD (see http://www.ipec.co.uk/pd-products/asm-e-permanent-pd-monitor/ for more information on the systems).
