Following my first career as a Research Engineer, one PhD and a number of peer reviewed papers, I moved to a supporting role within higher education developing enterprise scale applications used to facilitate the delivery of world class teaching and research.Along the way, I developed a passion for the use of modern software development techniques which drive the delivery of quality products efficiently and in a timely fashion. As a lead in an enterprise application team I introduced the concepts of continuous integration and automated deployment, encouraging the team to learn from each other through giving tech talks (Cake may have been an initial motivator). The team now regularly pair programme and there are numerous delivery pipelines taking code from commit, through automated testing, to deployment in staging environments.Following this success, I was selected to attend Cranfield School of Management’s General Manager Programme which elevated my perspective and gave me insight into other industries.I am now broadening my influence by taking on an Assistant Director role. Working with my peers I am realigning the IT team to deliver the Universities needs more directly whilst continuing to accelerate the delivery of value to our users. As part of this I am also overseeing the High-Performance-Computing team as we look to deliver a multi-million-pound refresh of our HPC infrastructure.
