CurrentCasework Analyst• Analyze evidence for the presence or absence of controlled substances• Utilize color tests and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) for analysis• Document findings and prepare laboratory reports based upon conclusions• Provide testimony as an expert witness in the court of lawQuality Control• Prepare and verify reagents used for color tests• Prepare and verify chemical solvents used for GC/MS and TLC analysis• Prepare controlled substance standards used for Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC)• Verify controlled substance reference standards used for casework analysis• Perform administrative and technical reviews on laboratory reports to ensure laboratory standard operating procedures and protocols are followedChemical Inventory• Resupply and distribute laboratory staff with laboratory equipment, chemical solvents, and TLC standards as needed• Assist in purchases of laboratory equipment from outside vendors• Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment inventory in both Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Microsoft Excel spreadsheetsInstrumentation• Validate and qualify GC/MS instruments and methods for sample analysis• Ensure that laboratory GC/MS instruments meet acceptable criteria before being used for casework on a daily basis• Check analysts’ sequences before starting sample analysis on GC/MS instruments• Process and print analysts’ sample data from GC/MS instruments• Operate and perform maintenance and repairs on GC/MS instruments as needed• Manage maintenance records of GC/MS instruments• Replace gas cylinders for GC/MS instruments as needed
