Currently collaborating on managing the planning phase of the California Jobs First initiative, bringing together diverse stakeholders to engage in discussion on preparing a regional economic diversification plan. I spearhead outreach strategizing and community engagement meetings throughout all of Kern County, ensuring that equitable access is maintained. Additionally, I serve as the liaison to the California Renewable Energy Laboratory (CREL) by connecting their functions with underserved communities to rethink and further develop a community education component. I also assist by working on developing strategic partnerships with Environmental Justice organizations. Lastly, I devote some time to the grant writing team where I assist in writing, planning, and organizing of grant proposals.

This role allowed me to garner my writing skills by researching and creating blogs regarding news in Africa. I decided to focus on race intersectionality as it pertained to the migrant crisis in Africa. Intersectionality is the lens through which I view international affairs and this experience truly allowed me to further that thinking.

In this role, I led an evaluation of on-campus centers and programs for openness to undocumented students. I created a survey to collect undocumented students opinions on how to make center services more efficient and useful. Lastly, I brainstormed opportunities to bring undocumented students on campus together and build community through strength and resiliency. Through this experience I was ultimately able to serve a community that I feel resonates deeply with my roots.

Through this role, I was able to conduct a thesis research project regarding Latinx student retention in higher education. I conducted interviews with 20 Latinx students to better understand their opinions towards campus resources and institutions. Additionally, I created a photography project exhibit involving student testimonies. All in all, this role truly allowed me to serve the community that I belong to.
