Chris was born in Invercargill New Zealand and grew up in Christchurch. He attended St. Andrews College and Burnisde High School before moving to Dunedin in 1995 to study art training at Otago School of Art. In 1997 Chris left Art School to travel and go to Raves. In 1999 he moved to Australia and completed his undergraduate degree at the Queensland College of Art (Gold Coast Campus). Chris continued to travel while pursuing a career as an artist before embarking on a Doctorate at the Queensland College of Art in 2005. He was awarded Doctor of Visual Art in 2009 for research titled Video Art, Authenticity and the Spectacle of Contemporary existence.From 2009 Chris has lectured in Sculpture and other departments at Griffith University.Chris's art has been exhibited nationally and internationally in major contemporary art exhibitions including: Revolutions: forms that turn, The Biennale of Sydney (2008); +Plus Factors, Australian Centre of Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2006); Ecstasy: baroque and beyond, University of Queensland Art Museum, Brisbane (2018); SafARI, Alaska Projects, Sydney (2012); Contemporary Australia: optimism; Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (2008); Sculpture at Scenic World, Blue Mountains (2017); and Control Rooms, Youkobo Artpsace, Tokyo (2014).He has won many awards including: the Clayton Utz Art Prize, Brisbane (2014); Gold Coast Art Award (2012); highly commended at the inaugural John Fires Art Award, Sydney (2013); and, notably, the only artist to win the Swell Sculpture Festival twice (2013 + 2019).Chris makes Techno as Olympic Pool Maintenance League. He has released on major international record labels including: Mord (Netherlands); Natura Viva (Italy); Diffuse Reality (Spain); Sunora (Germany); Pocketmoth (Australia); Occultech (India); and Sub-Label Recordings (UK). His debut Album The Warp Order was released on Sunora in November 2021. In 2022 Diffuse Reality will release his second album (on vinyl) featuring remixes by two revered electronic music producers Gorgio Gigli and Head Front Panel.Olympic Pool Maintenance League has performed at Sub Rosa (2021); The Cave (2021); Flaming Gala (2020) and Quivr (2020). In 2020 Chris worked with The Walls Art Space to present performances by 12 Queensland-based electronic music artists across a series of events inside the gallery. The project, titled Sound Series, received RADF funding.In 2021 Chris obtained his Cert III + IV in Fitness. He runs group training sessions outdoors and trains clients one-on-one at Extreme Physique, Albion.
