I am an electrical engineer, husband, father, and photography enthusiast. I am passionate about helping others learn and grow, especially in technical fields. In my career, I help manage the Substation Department within the Transmission & Distribution Global Practice at Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City. I challenge myself and others to use real data to answer questions and to make better-informed business decisions. I am an advocate for continual improvement and critical thinking. I firmly believe that in all areas of engineering, business, and society at large, in order to move forward we must out-think our past and break free from the captivating influence of “what we’ve always done,” and how we’ve always thought.As a department manager, I strive to hire and develop top talent in the high voltage power transmission industry. I gain satisfaction in helping my team succeed and I enjoy the challenge of managing an organization.Prior to moving fully into department management, I designed and supported the design of high voltage transmission substations for electric utility clients. I have been involved in a variety of projects including primarily 120-kV to 345-kV substations. The scope of these projects has varied greatly from so-called "green-field" installations to equipment and relay retrofit jobs. I especially enjoyed the challenges associated with substation grounding design as well as those that come with the occasional emergency replacement project that came about due to the failure of aging equipment. I find helping a client out of a tough spot in their time of need to be an incredibly fulfilling experience.
