Christopher DeBonis is a game designer and developer that was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. Chris attended Central New Mexico Community College, beginning in 2007, where he studied multiple different subjects before completing an A.S. in Physics in 2014. Chris continued his college studies at the University of New Mexico with an interest in medicine, and subsequently transferred into the department of Emergency Medical Services at the UNM School of Medicine. Chris completed his EMT-Basic and was accepted into the EMS Academy Paramedic Class of 2017, where he completed a year of training in Emergency Medical Services at the paramedic level. After completing the paramedic program, Chris began working for American Medical Response on an ambulance unit, which performed 9-1-1 emergency medical response in Valencia County, NM, as well as interfacility medical transfer throughout New Mexico. During this time, Chris was offered a position as a teaching assistant at the UNM EMS Academy for the next oncoming paramedic class, which he graciously accepted. During this time teaching, Chris also completed his B.S. in Emergency Medical Services from the UNM School of Medicine. After three years of service, Chris transitioned from pre-hospital to in-hospital EMS, leaving AMR to work at Presbyterian Healthcare Services. At Presbyterian Healthcare Services, Chris helped to open Albuquerque’s first 24/7 urgent care and standalone emergency department, working in a facility that provided patient care experience across a variety of acuities. COVID-19 began while Chris was working in the emergency department in 2020, and he used his skill set in EMS education to provide up-to-date training on COVID-19 specific topics, such as ventilation under isolation precautions and use of mechanical ventilators. After two years of working at the emergency department and urgent care, Chris decided to take a break from medicine to process accumulated trauma over the five prior years, at which time he began exploring other career interests. Enamored with the topic of interactive storytelling, Chris began pursuing a B.A. in Film and Digital Media Arts at the University of New Mexico, with a concentration in gaming. Chris currently studies at UNM, and resides in Corrales, NM with his loving wife and their two young, amazing daughters. In his time off from school he performs research in the field of game design with a focus in interactive storytelling, which he writes and blogs about under his self-created brand, 3D Dialectics.
