Profile bio

About Christopher Cooney

With 15+ years of experience heavily focused in Capital Markets, I am equipped with transactional, origination, syndication and legal expertise across the full spectrum of unsecured and structured debt & credit products. I have spent the last several years structuring highly complex transactions, building out a billing & delivering franchise, advising issuers (foreign and domestic) in the intricacies of new issue fund raising, securitizations and capital restructuring. I have led an 18.5bn multi-seller, multi-currency ABCP conduit and traded ABCP daily. In addition to the transactional work, I am serving as a business manager and strategic business partner, driving change and implementing strategies that accelerate growth into new target areas, primarily focused on expanding asset classes, especially in the esoteric space. Formerly my experiences led me through DCM, Structured Finance, Leveraged Finance, Equity Capital Markets, and Liability Management, so I remain well versed in those products. I spent several years working on sovereign debt restructuring of the government in Argentina (2015-17) and made many lasting friendships with clients and colleagues in the region. In addition to my banking experiences, I have a Juris Doctor and possess a diverse legal education, which equips me with a unique and differentiated skill set from my investment banking peers. I worked full time as a relationship manager covering financial institutions, while attending law school in the evenings, so I am no stranger to hard work and sleepless nights. I am fortunate enough to have been able to marry my love for business with my passion for law. I love being an entrepreneur and own several LLCs geared toward real estate investing and have also endeavored into being an inventor. I maintain a large network of banking and legal professionals, with whom I have developed many lasting relationships on both a professional and personal level. I am highly motivated, with strong problem-solving skills, a profound sense of entrepreneurship and am driven to succeed. As my path has more recently bestowed upon me many added management responsibilities, I have sincerely enjoyed and taken pride in developing juniors and being a team mentor/motivator. I strongly feel that hiring attitude over aptitude is imperative for growth and so long as the fundamentals exist in a person, anyone with the willingness to learn and drive to succeed can be taught all of the rest. Entitlement might be a key that opens a door, but in my world that's a door that leads out of my office!

Listed skills include Banking, Derivatives, Aml, Investments, and 43 others.
