• Engineered new nanoparticles, materials and chemical compounds for their integration into large and complex interacting systems. Developed for research, consumer and industrial applications.
• Performed several major projects for the private industry and federal government. For the Xerox Corp. worked on bio-toners for copiers to abate moisture issues and increase charging effects; for the Nuenz Corp. worked.
• Used a variety of instrumental and laboratory techniques to analyze and characterize the new nano-particles, materials and chemical compounds, including the Scanning Electron Microscope, TGA, X-ray diffractometer, IR.
• Learned the great importance of nanoscale science and engineering. How nanometer (billionth of a meter) and micrometer (millionth of a meter) materials and particles affect the materials that they are integrated into.
• Worked with a wide variety of people of many different backgrounds. An environment that encouraged collaborative efforts, interdisciplinary studies, and safe lab/work practices, which enabled major discoveries.

DEC Labs Located On The SUNY Albany East Campus, Rensselaer, NY

• I worked for the Ambient Air Monitoring Section/Quality Assurance Standards Lab, Bureau of Quality Assurance (BQA), Division of Air Resources (DAR). We worked closely with the DAR Bureau of Air Quality Surveillance.
• Maintained and repaired the Standards Lab’s SO2 and CO NIST standards and reference analyzers. The USEPA mandates all states to monitor their ambient air for the criteria pollutants SO2 and CO.
• Maintained, repaired and certified 45 SO2 and CO calibrators (transfer standards) for the ambient air monitoring sites throughout NY State. Custom built 40 replacement SO2 and CO calibrators.
• Traveled throughout NY State to conduct performance and system audits at the NYS DEC field air monitoring sites. NY State has one of the largest state air monitoring networks in the country.
• Air testing around Ground Zero (about a year after 911); Air testing for biological and chemical contaminants in NYC for anti-terrorism purposes (post 911).
• Received air toxics training at the USEPA Region I Laboratory in Boston; traveled to the USEPA region II Laboratory in Edison, NJ for equipment audits; travelled to NYC for training on several occasions.

Worked on the straw-line. We produced and packaged plastic drinking straws. Worked with extruders which made the straws, and other machines - that put the crink in bendable straws, paper wrapped the straws, and packaged the straws (Dixie Straws). Learned a lot of mechanics working with the machines. Worked with a lot of people (with different backgrounds).
