As of 1st January 2019, I am employed by Galimedix as - Chief Pharmacologist & VP of Non-Clinical Development.My last position at Merz Pharmaceuticals was "Principle Scientific Expert - Pharmacology" in the division R&D CNS.At the peak of my managerial responsibilities at Merz I was directly responsible for the department "in vitro pharmacology". This group consisted of four full time academic employees and five full time technical assistants. In addition, I directly supervised eight doctoral theses and several postdoctoral academics / sandwich students.Techniques mastered / used included electrophysiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, protein / protein interactions and phenotypic screening.My personal “hands on“ methodological expertise is largely focused on electrophysiological techniques such as whole cell and single channel patch clamp, two electrode-voltage clamp, fEPSPs (LTP) and in vivo single unit recordings.My core academic competence is in the neuropharmacology / neurophysiology of ligand gated ion channels and GPCRs with a strong focus on the glutamatergic system, as well as protein / protein interactions with a strong focus on ABeta. Biggest successes include elucidating the unique mechanism of action of memantine (37 papers) that aided the registration of this compound for the treatment of Alzheimer´s disease and the discovery of novel compounds such as neramexane (10 papers).Specialties: Electrophysiology, phenotypic screeing, repurposing, neuropharmacology, ion channels, GPCRs, protein / protein interactions and adipose tissue pharmacology. I have published 92 orginal papers, 23 reviews, 214 conference abstracts, 28 patents. I am an editor / reviewer for academic journals and fluent in German
