About Dr. Christopher Haggarty-Weir, Mrsb, Mrsc, Ph.D, Mba

I currently split my time between biotech consulting and lecturing (at UQ's world-leading biotech program.) I also serve as a professional advisor at MIT within the Sloan School of Management (specifically the Martin Trust Centre for Entrepreneurship). Before this, I was a consultant with Edison Group (healthcare investment research) and ttopstart, a life sciences consulting firm part of the PNO Consulting Group in Europe (a multinational skilled at project management, funding, corporate finance, and business strategy). I previously founded Haggarty-Weir Consulting, where I supervised a team of consultants focused on solving problems for life science and tech startups, and technical consulting for biotech investors. Also, I had co-founded a bioscience startup developing novel sensor technology for use in the stem cell industry which was spun into the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering, and then moved to a tech incubator. In 2020, I completed my MBA in finance & management through the University of the People in conjunction with NYU and Harvard (my final project focused on biopharma M&A). Prior to this I completed a Universitas 21 joint Ph.D program, split between the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute, and the Universities of Melbourne and Edinburgh. My research was in molecular parasitology/structural vaccinology and biophysical chemistry, with a focus on malaria vaccine R&D under the supervision of Prof. Alan Cowman, FRS. During my doctoral research, I interned for 16 months at Edinburgh Innovations, dealing with business development and commercialization of med/biotech-related intellectual property, and worked as a VC analyst for Seven Hills Venture Partners. My other interests include IP law, investment strategy, teaching, business, venture capitalism, M&A, ethical capitalism, philanthropy, biotech, politics, and philosophy. My personal motto is "nihil non ausi lucrata" (nothing ventured nothing gained). In terms of what I can uniquely bring to your team, there are three main things: 1. I'm a high energy/high performing individual with the ability to not only take on numerous different projects simultaneously, but ones where I have to learn fast and undirected (my various publications in numerous fields demonstrate this in addition to the numerous business projects I have worked on).2. I have an excellent understanding of advanced STEM, IP, and business/investment acumen. 3. My unique personality and global experiences mean I can understand and relate to and get along with people from a diverse array of backgrounds.
